Testimonials & Hypoallergenic Qualities of Curlies
Allergy Sufferer Finds Relief with Curly Horses - Testimonial
W I had read about Curly Horses on the Internet for over a year, but was hesitant to believe they would not have me wheezing and sneezing like all other horses. As a child I had owned a horse, but could not pet, groom or really touch it as my allergies to horses, dust and hay limited me to riding and running for a shower. As an adult allergies caused me to put the dream of owning a horse on the back burner and I did not ride for over 15 years.
In September 2002, I visited Julie Hansen at Colorado Curlies. Many websites discuss the hypoallergenic properties of Curlies, but only Julie's site had a first hand story from someone with severe allergies. After my visit, I am happy to add another testimony. I spent a LONG time cuddling Curly foals, petting and riding adult Curlies and I finished the day with only the same tolerable amount of sneezing that I get from gardening.
While I cannot say that I was 100% allergy free, I did not experience the severe or frightening "horse" allergy hives and wheezing that I usually do. I believe the minor sneezing I had was from very brief contact with straight and non-Curly horses, dust and hay. While I had immediate hive reactions on my forearms from straight and non-Curlies, I had absolutely NO hives from very extended contact with Curlies.
I was amazed at the dramatic variation in allergy reaction to non-Curly, straight, and Curly horses. While I cannot speak from a "miracle", I can speak from the difference between misery and a sneeze. The visit to Julie and to Colorado Curlies has given me my dream of owning a horse back. I know now that I want to own a Curly, but I also know that I would have to do "test" visits to ensure that a prospective Curly worked for my allergies.
I would encourage allergy sufferers to see if Curlies work for them. Giving hope to allergy sufferers that they might be able to own a horse is a very special thing, and I am very thankful to Julie for this. However, since I had surfed more than a dozen Curly websites BEFORE I actually got to "meet" a Curly, I would add that I could not imagine an allergy sufferer being able to select a horse over the Internet.
Not only did the allergy issue vary greatly among horses, I saw the value of having an experienced person match up the right horse to the right person. Julie's commitment to both horses and to people is obvious, and it made me realize how important trust in a breeder and trainer is. I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Julie from me and my husband -- who has never been around horses, but since the visit has decided he too wants a horse!Save a couple of Curlies for us Julie, we will be back!
Thanks again, Karen K. Sarul
Pearli was sold to a woman who had severe allergies to horses. With the Curlys' hypoallergenic qualities, she can ride all day without any symptoms! Here is her testimony:
Dear Fellow Curly Horse Fans: I am writing this letter of thanks, first to our Lord Jesus for blessing me with a wonderful Curly horse. I am extremely allergic to horses (asthma) and thought my riding days were over. Then I was blessed with getting to know Juie Hansen. I had never heard of Curly horses and their hypoallergenic qualities, until I met Julie. When I am around regular horses, I break out in a rash wherever I touch them, and I wheeze badly. Last fall, Julie let me ride one of her Curlies to see how I'd react (or not react) to her horses. I actually put my face directly into her horse's curly neck and took a breath! I did not react to her!! No wheezing!! Late this last spring, Julie decided to sell me this special horse of hers -- Pearli Karelli. I have never been so happy! I can actually brush her, hug her, and just in general be around her and I am OK! My Pearli is quite a gem!I just wanted to share my Curly story with all of you who love and understand these wonderful Curly horses. Love those Curlies!!
Dawn Marie Mullane, Colorado.
